Dawson, Zack, Tatum, Terese, Doug, and Talia
Camp Wilkerson Park, Rainier, Oregon
We have raised a variety of livestock and animals over the years. We have owned horses, raised goats for milking, chickens for eggs, and adopted a few cats along the way. As our kennel business grew, we slowly parted with our other animals, so we could focus our attention specifically towards our Basset Hounds and Havanese.
The process of chores, and daily work involved in Animal Husbandry, builds family teamwork, and is a great homeschool project. Our little farm gets us outside and working together as a team, even on the rainy days in Southwest Washington State.
Although our journey as a family has been met with many trials of life to deal with, we are thankful that we have a God who loves us, and teaches us so many life lessons along the way. We are stronger people because of the challenges we have gone through. We have had lots of good times and laughter too. Doug keeps us laughing with his sense of humor!
We are a Christian family, who enjoys the goodness that God has brought to our lives. Our family consists of Doug and Terese, and our three children......Tatum, Dawson, and Talia, and Tatum's new husband, Zack.
Tatum, our oldest daughter, has always had a compassionate heart for animals. She was our resident "C.N." (Canine Nurse), at Blessing Acres. Tatum and Zack married in the Summer of 2014. We are so thankful to God for bringing them together. Zack and Tatum have made their new home in Independence, Oregon. Zack completed his Criminal Justice Degree in 2015. Tatum and Zack visit often, and help out with our kennels as time allows.
Dawson, our second, has his own apartment, and is working for AT & T. When he visits home, he enjoys loving on puppies! Dawson did the morning and evening kennel chores daily for several years. He helped his Dad with ALL the maintenance (there is a lot!), and helped build our kennels. He is a very hard worker, and he learned much of that here on our property.
Talia is our youngest, who is in her Senior year of home-education. Talia works daily in our kennels, and helps Terese with the administrative part of our business. She works caring for our adult Havanese, cares for pups, and does routine health screens on our Adult dogs. She has incredible attention for detail, which really helps in all we do. We rely on her greatly!
We reside on a small acreage outside of Longview, WA, one hour North of Portland, OR and one hour South of Olympia, WA.
In 2001, we moved North from Vancouver, WA, when Doug's job brought consistent work in Longview. We downsized our bigger house in the city, in order to upsize our property. Our kids were young, and we were so excited to experience "country living" with our eager family. We soon embarked on a life that we never dreamed would be so interesting, sometimes frustrating (lots to learn), but also lots of fun! We are so thankful for our life in a rural setting. We experience great blessing, in having the privilege of caring for God's creation. Terese named our little farm, "BLESSING ACRES", because she felt so "blessed" for the family to live here, and because they wanted it to be a "blessing" to others.
Doug and Terese both grew up in the Portland, Oregon area. They met in College, Physical Therapy program. Doug has worked in the Physical Therapy profession for 28 years. He works for Peace Health Outpatient Therapies. He enjoys his work helping people recover from their injuries and physical pain, but he often says that he would rather work at home with the rest of us.
When the kids were young, Terese left her Physical Therapy career to be a stay-at-home. She has always home-educated the children. Two have graduated, and one left to go!
Terese became severely ill in 1998 with severe Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, caused by environmental poisoning (mercury). She was disabled for about 10 years, and has worked very hard to recover. She has learned a lot about Natural Medicine through the years, as she was forced to change her American medicine thinking about health, in order to recover her health. Terese and all of the Raney children had Environmental Health related challenges.
Due to the Raney's personal health challenges, they started thinking different about holistic animal health. Terese has desired to learn more about Natural Pet Health for many years. Terese has listened to many sad stories of dog owners who lost their beloved companions to cancer. Terese's goal is to self-educate about the Preventative and Holistic side of caring for pets.
Blessing Acres always visits our veterinarian with anything that we do not know how to treat on our own. Our vet, Timberland Veterinary Hospital, has referred clients to us, and always compliments us on our pups when we visit.
